Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Common Council has approved a plan to try and control the city's deer population.
Starting in December, Federal sharpshooters will be allowed to kill the animals. The deer are carrying disease ridden ticks that are spreading Lyme disease. Snipers will be active at night and will be positioned at least 300 feet from the closest road and 500 feet from the nearest home.
Venison from the dead animals would be going to a food bank that serves the homeless.
