As the I-10 freeway reopened in both directions Sunday night, the investigation into the start of the fire continues,.
Over the weekend, arson investigators from CalFire have released photos of a person of interest in connection with that massive fire under the I-10 freeway in downtown Los Angeles.
The bulletin shows the same man in two photos, one walking away from the camera on a sidewalk, the other walking towards the camera on a street. Officials say the photos are screen shots from surveillance video recording November 11th, 2023, at 12:25 AM. Six minutes later, 12:31 AM, the Los Angeles City Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at Alameda Street and the 10 freeway. Investigators say the man was seen leaving the area.
Investigators say they’re looking for a man, unknown race, 30-35 years old, about 6 feet tall, 170-190 pounds, black hair, eye color unknown; he was wearing blue shorts, a black jacket, black backpack, and carrying a green scarf. The guy had a brace on his right knee and may have burn scars on his left leg.
The fire on November 11th burned 8 acres and damaged a section of the freeway. It destroyed the contents of a state-owned storage yard that was being leased by Apex Development out of Calabasas. Governor Newsom says Apex was behind on rent to the total of $78,000 and legal proceedings are underway to evict the tenant. Newsom says Apex had been subleasing space to at least 6 other entities, which is a violation of the primary lease.
