The City of Kingston has officially launched the new Passport parking app on Monday (April 20), replacing the previous Flowbird system for paid parking at meters and municipal lots. According to Spectrum News, the switch is aimed at making it easier and more reliable for drivers to pay for parking across the city.

Mayor Steve Noble said, "We are excited about the new features and reliability that the new Passport parking app will provide to keep our parking system working smoothly." He encouraged residents and visitors to download the app ahead of time to ensure a smooth transition. The Passport app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and users can set up their account using a cell phone number or email address. Once registered, drivers can pay for parking wherever Passport signs are posted, using their phones for quick and secure payments. The app also offers reminders when a parking session is about to expire and allows users to extend time remotely.

For added convenience, Kingston will introduce a pay-by-text feature. Drivers can text "Park" to 30844 and follow instructions to enter their license plate and payment information, as outlined by Daily Freeman. Details and step-by-step instructions will be available on new Passport stickers placed on parking meters throughout the city.

During the transition period, the Flowbird app will remain operational through the end of May, giving drivers time to adjust to the new system. The Passport app is designed to offer features such as session alerts, digital receipts, and the ability to manage parking without searching for coins or waiting in line, according to Passport Parking.

More information about the new parking system and its features can be found on the Passport website. City officials recommend all users make the switch by early June to avoid any disruptions to their parking experience.
