A judge in Syracuse, New York, has granted a suppression hearing for the defense team of David Huff, who is accused of killing his girlfriend and young son last year. The decision was made during a brief court appearance on Tuesday (April 7), with the hearing date to be scheduled later in May, according to MSN News.
Huff faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Yeraldith Tschudy, 32, and Jeremiah Huff, 11. Police allege Huff used a Remington 870 Express 12-gauge shotgun to kill both victims at 128 Roney Road in the Valley neighborhood on Monday (March 17, 2025). He also faces attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon charges after allegedly pointing the shotgun at his stepfather, Charles O'Donnell. Huff was arrested by New York State Police the following morning after fleeing the scene.
During the investigation, Huff reportedly made several statements to law enforcement. His attorneys, led by Shaun Chase, are seeking to prevent these statements from being used as evidence at trial, raising concerns about their admissibility. The suppression hearing will determine whether those statements can be included in the prosecution’s case.
Prosecutors previously offered Huff a plea deal—two counts of second-degree murder, with sentences totaling 40 years to life in prison—but Huff rejected the agreement. If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face life in prison without parole, according to Spectrum News.
A pre-trial hearing is due later in May to set the date for the suppression hearing, and Huff’s trial is scheduled to start on Monday (October 19, 2026). The case continues to unfold as both sides prepare for what is expected to be a closely watched trial in Onondaga County.
