The West Kirkpatrick Street bridge in Syracuse will close today (Monday, March 9) for essential repairs. The Syracuse Department of Engineering announced that crews will replace bridge joints and conduct other safety work to ensure the bridge's long-term functionality. The closure is expected to last several weeks, though the timeline may vary depending on weather conditions.

During the construction period, local traffic will still have access to properties up to the bridge. Clearly marked detours will guide northbound and southbound traffic along Van Rensselaer Street, Spencer Street, and Solar Street before reconnecting with Kirkpatrick Street. Pedestrian access to the Creekwalk will remain open throughout the project.

Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and consider alternate routes when possible. According to Syracuse.com, the detours will help motorists navigate the closure effectively.

The bridge's repair is part of ongoing efforts to maintain infrastructure safety and efficiency in Syracuse. As reported by Patch.com, the city has also proposed a $3.5 million project to improve pedestrian and bike safety around the Regional Market and other key areas.
