Benefit events are being organized in Boonville for firefighters injured in an explosion at Abundant Life Fellowship Church last month. The blast occurred on Route 12, injuring four firefighters and the church's pastor. This weekend, a bowling tournament will be held at Boonville Bowling Alley, and a community dinner is planned for Sunday at Boonville Elks Lodge.
The explosion was caused by a damaged propane fuel line, which was affected by heavy snow shifting the building. The church had reported a gas smell, prompting the Boonville Fire Department to respond. Firefighters were trying to shut off the power when the explosion occurred.
Pastor Brandon Pitts, who was injured, has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. He emphasized that while the church building was lost, their mission and faith remain intact. Services are now being held at Adirondack High School.
Community support has been strong, with local nonprofits stepping in to assist. The events this weekend aim to raise funds for the injured first responders and show solidarity with those affected.
