Police Probe Homer Fire; Two Deputies Injured

In Homer, authorities are investigating a fire that broke out on Sunday (February 22) at 35 James Street, resulting in injuries to two deputies. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident but did not disclose the nature or severity of the deputies' injuries.

The fire, which erupted around 11:15 a.m., was located just down the street from the Homer Police Department. Firefighters encountered heavy flames on the second floor of the building and took approximately 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze. One firefighter sustained a leg injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment but has since been released.

The Homer Police Department, Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control are all involved in the ongoing investigation. As of now, the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to the deputies' injuries remain unclear.
