Central New York motorists continue to see consistent prices at the pump while national averages have begun to inch upward. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel in Central New York currently sits at $2.95, unchanged from last week.

This stability comes as good news for local drivers, especially as the national average has increased by two cents to $2.90 per gallon. The New York State average remains at $2.99, holding steady from the previous week.

Current prices represent a four-cent decline from what drivers were paying at this point one month ago, offering some relief to consumers' wallets. In the Syracuse area specifically, motorists are paying around $2.96 per gallon, reports CNY Central.

"Gasoline demand is down, as fewer drivers hit the road during winter weather," AAA noted. However, this is typically when pump prices begin to rise as spring approaches and refineries start transitioning to summer-blend gasoline production.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) confirms this trend, reporting that gasoline demand decreased last week from 8.30 million barrels per day to 7.83 million, while total domestic gasoline supply increased from 251 million barrels to 257 million.

Oil markets continue to monitor potential disruptions in the Middle East, with crude oil trading in the $60-$65 per barrel range. Despite these factors, current pump prices remain significantly lower than a year ago – 24 cents lower nationally and 21 cents lower across New York State. At this time last year, the national average was $3.14.

For drivers looking to maximize savings, AAA recommends mapping routes, avoiding rush hour, combining errands, using cruise control when possible, and ensuring proper tire pressure.
