A man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in the town of Kirkland, Oneida County, as authorities continue investigating the cause of the crash.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to Bristol Road at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday (January 28) after receiving reports of a personal injury accident.
Investigators determined that the male driver was traveling northbound in a black 2025 Nissan Rogue when he began losing control of the vehicle. The car nearly struck a mailbox on the eastern shoulder before crossing into the southbound lane and ultimately hitting an earth embankment on the western side of the road.
First responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. Authorities have not yet released the victim's name, pending notification of family members.
"The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated," a sheriff's office statement indicated. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.
Emergency personnel from several agencies assisted at the scene, including COCVAC (Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps), the Clinton Fire Department, and Clinton Collision.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them as the investigation continues.
