With frigid temperatures persisting, the Oneida County Office Building in Utica will continue to serve as a warming center until further notice. County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. announced the extension due to the cold weather forecast, with overnight lows expected to dip into the single digits and below zero.

The warming center, located at 800 Park Avenue, operates nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. and offers a safe space for residents to escape the cold. While no beds or bedding are provided, individuals can access seating and restrooms. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office ensures security during the center's operation. Nearly 50 people have already utilized the facility over the past weekend, highlighting its importance in providing shelter from the harsh weather conditions.

The initiative is part of a broader effort coordinated by the Oneida County Office of Family and Community Services (DFCS) in collaboration with local organizations. The Rescue Mission of Utica runs a 24/7 Drop-in/Warming Center at 1013 West Street and offers additional emergency shelter options. The Morrow Warming Center at 500 Plant Street and the South Rome Senior Center at 112 Ridge Street in Rome also provide overnight warming services.

According to Oneida County, these efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents during extreme cold weather conditions.
