Motorists across Central New York are continuing to see relief at the pump as gas prices have dipped slightly in recent weeks. According to AAA's latest fuel price report, the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline in the region currently stands at $2.95, down one cent from last week and seven cents lower than one month ago.

This local trend comes as the national average sits at $2.88 per gallon as of Monday (January 26), slightly higher than the $2.84 reported earlier this month but still well below last year's prices. On this date in 2025, American drivers were paying an average of $3.08 per gallon.

"Pump prices are typically low in January thanks to a dip in gas demand and cheaper winter blend gasoline," explained AAA in a recent statement. The organization notes that crude oil prices have remained relatively stable despite ongoing tensions in Iran, an OPEC member and major global oil producer.

State averages continue to show significant variation across the country. Hawaii leads the nation with the highest average price at $4.40 per gallon, followed by California at $4.21. Meanwhile, Oklahoma drivers enjoy the lowest prices in the country at just $2.32 per gallon.

The current state average in the region stands at $2.97 per gallon, slightly above the local average but still below the $3 mark that many consumers view as a psychological threshold.

According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand increased slightly last week from 8.17 million to 8.30 million barrels per day, while domestic gasoline supply rose from 242 million barrels to 251 million. This balance of supply and demand has helped maintain relatively stable prices.

For electric vehicle owners, the national average cost for public charging remains steady at 38 cents per kilowatt hour, with significant regional variations similar to those seen with gasoline prices.
