Oneida County residents in need of a warm place to stay can find shelter at the County Office Building on Park Avenue in Utica. From Friday (January 23) through Monday (January 26), the building will serve as a warming center from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night. Although restrooms will be available, no beds or bedding will be provided. County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. announced the initiative, citing the dangerously cold temperatures and extreme wind chills expected over the weekend.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office will provide security at the site, while the Oneida County Office of Family and Community Services (DFCS) coordinates efforts with the Rescue Mission of Utica. The Rescue Mission operates a 24/7 warming center at 1013 West Street in Utica. Additionally, the Morrow Warming Center at 500 Plant Street in Utica and the South Rome Senior Center at 112 Ridge Street in Rome will also offer shelter during the same hours, with the latter open only on Friday and Saturday.

Picente emphasized the importance of providing respite for those at risk, stating, "We are working diligently with our partners to ensure those without shelter are cared for." Temperatures in Central New York are forecasted to drop near or below zero, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

CNY Central reports that other local organizations, like the Cornerstone Community Church, are also involved in providing support to those in need during this cold spell.
