The County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency (IDA) will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday (January 6) at 9:30 a.m. at the Town of Scriba Municipal Building. The hearing will focus on a proposed project by Novelis Corporation, which plans to renovate and expand its Scriba aluminum plant. The project includes upgrading the Hot Mill and Finishing Mill, installing new machinery, and expanding operations.
Novelis is seeking state and local sales and use tax exemptions to support the project. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the hearing and provide input. Copies of the application and cost-benefit analysis are available at the IDA office.
The plant has recently been in the news due to three fires in two months, including a significant five-alarm fire on November 20. Despite these challenges, Novelis continues to supply aluminum to Ford, particularly for the F-150 trucks, while leveraging its global network to maintain production. The hearing presents an opportunity for the public to discuss a project that could significantly impact one of Oswego County's largest industrial operations. For more details, visit CNY Central.
