Herman Harried, a former Syracuse University basketball player, has been nominated for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Harried played for the Syracuse Orange from 1984 to 1989. His nomination stems from his successful coaching career at Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he has led the team to six state championships and four Baltimore city titles. Harried's coaching record stands at 537 wins and 155 losses.

Harried, a native of Baltimore, first made a name for himself at Dunbar High School, playing alongside notable players like Muggsy Bogues and Reggie Lewis. His college career at Syracuse was impacted by a knee injury that limited his playing time, but he earned the nickname "Helicopter" for his leaping ability before the injury.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced its list of nominees for the Class of 2026 on Friday (December 19). This is Harried's first nomination. The finalists for the Hall of Fame will be announced in February, and the Class of 2026 will be revealed during Final Four Weekend on Saturday, April 4. The induction ceremony is scheduled for August 14-15 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

According to Syracuse.com, Harried's contributions to basketball extend beyond his coaching achievements. Last April, he coached the East squad in the McDonald’s All-American game, and the basketball court at Lake Clifton High has been named in his honor.
