Drivers in Central New York are seeing relief at the pump as gas prices have dropped, according to AAA. The average price for a gallon of regular fuel in the area is now $3.06, down three cents from last week and three cents lower than a month ago. This decrease comes as a welcome relief for those making last-minute holiday shopping trips.

Statewide, the average gas price is also $3.06, while the national average is slightly lower at $2.85. According to CNY Central, the national average has dipped below $3.00 for the first time in four years.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that state gas prices have declined for the second consecutive week, with a current average of $2.99 per gallon, down from $3.02 last week. This marks a seven-cent drop over the past month.

As reported by AAA, the national average for gas has dropped more than four cents since last week to $2.89, making this December the cheapest at the pump since 2020. Despite increased gasoline demand over the holidays, supply remains strong, contributing to the steady decrease in prices.
