A fire broke out on Saturday (December 13) at the Brighton Place Townhouses on Syracuse's South Side, damaging two second-floor apartments and displacing three residents. Neighbors called 911 around 12:42 p.m. after noticing smoke and flames from Apartment 25. Firefighters arrived promptly, finding heavy smoke and flames, but confirmed that no one was inside at the time. The fire was contained within 20 minutes, but the apartment of origin sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The adjacent apartment also suffered minor smoke and water damage.
According to Deputy Chief James Farewell of the Syracuse Fire Department, one resident was home but locked out of the apartment when the fire started. Fortunately, no injuries to residents, firefighters, or pets were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross and the property management are assisting the displaced residents. As reported by WSYR-TV, the fire department has not yet determined the cause of the fire. Firefighters and investigators remained on the scene into the afternoon to assess the situation further.
