Oneida County officials in Utica have issued a warning to residents about the increasing issue of benefits skimming from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. They are advising recipients to avoid using third-party apps to manage or check their benefits, as these platforms may not be secure.

To further protect their benefits, officials suggest using the lock card feature, which can prevent unauthorized access to accounts. Additionally, recipients are reminded to keep their Personal Identification Number (PIN) confidential to safeguard their information.

Anyone with questions or concerns about their benefits or how to protect them can contact the Oneida County Department of Family and Community Services for assistance. This measure is part of a broader effort to ensure that residents' benefits remain secure and accessible only to them.
