A winter weather advisory is currently in effect for Central New York, covering Madison and Onondaga counties, as reported by the National Weather Service. Northern Oneida County is under a winter storm warning until Thursday (December 11) at 1 p.m., with the possibility of up to a foot of snow. Other areas may see lower snow accumulations, along with the threat of freezing rain.

The storm began early Wednesday (December 10), bringing heavy snow and periods of freezing rain, making travel potentially difficult. According to Syracuse.com, snow accumulations could reach between two and seven inches in some regions, with wind gusts up to 30 mph expected.

As the day progresses, a mix of rain and snow is anticipated at lower elevations, particularly near Lake Erie. By evening, temperatures will drop, turning precipitation back to snow and initiating multiple bands of lake effect snow. FingerLakes1.com reports that these conditions are expected to persist into Thursday and Friday, with strong winds potentially causing blowing and drifting snow.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution, with the National Weather Service urging motorists to slow down and be prepared for slippery roads and low visibility. Syracuse.com emphasizes the importance of monitoring road conditions and preparing vehicles with essential winter supplies. For the latest updates, tune to NewsRadio 570 WSYR.
