The New York State Department of Health is advising residents to take precautions against respiratory illnesses as the holiday season approaches. There has been a notable increase in flu cases, particularly in Central New York. Onondaga County reported the highest number of infections with 204 cases, followed by Oneida County with 25 and Oswego County with 24.

State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald emphasized the importance of vaccinations, stating, "We expect a more severe flu season due to circulating strains of the virus compared to last year." Vaccines for flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are available at local pharmacies and healthcare providers. The health department encourages everyone, especially those at higher risk, to get vaccinated.

According to the New York State Department of Health, flu cases have risen significantly, with 32,769 cases reported across 62 counties as of November 29. Hospitalizations due to flu have also increased, climbing by 93% in one week. COVID-19 cases remain a concern, with 1,948 cases reported in the same period. RSV cases are also on the rise, particularly affecting young children and older adults.

The department advises that it is safe to receive all three vaccines in one appointment, and Governor Hochul has extended an executive order allowing pharmacists to administer COVID vaccines to ensure convenient access.
