A new 436-unit housing development has been proposed in the Town of Onondaga. The mixed residential project, spearheaded by Stoneridge Residential Development, aims to address the housing needs anticipated from Micron Technology's upcoming semiconductor manufacturing project in the area. The development will feature a combination of single-family homes, condominiums, studios, and one-bedroom apartments, transforming 92 acres of vacant land near Ball Road and McDonald Road.

The project comes as Onondaga County prepares for a population surge, with Micron's plant expected to create 9,000 direct jobs and an additional 40,000 indirect jobs over the next two decades. Memory chip production is slated to begin by 2030, according to Micron. As reported by CNY Central, community member Ryan Madigan expressed optimism, stating, "It will help younger generations have opportunities to buy a house."

The land is currently zoned for single-family homes, so a zoning change to planned residential is necessary to accommodate the multi-family units. An informational meeting is scheduled for Tuesday (December 9) at the Onondaga Town Hall, where developers will present preliminary renderings and market research. Residents will have the opportunity to provide input, and a public hearing will be held later. Written comments are accepted until January 5, 2026.

The proposal is part of a broader effort by county officials to encourage housing development ahead of Micron's project in the town of Clay. As reported by Syracuse.com, the Onondaga development is in its early design phase, and the town board's approval is required for the zoning change.

For those unable to attend the meeting, written comments can be sent to the Town of Onondaga, Town Supervisor’s Office.
