The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced that lane reductions will be in effect on Interstate 81 in Syracuse today (December 8). Both northbound and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between Exit 17 (S. State St./Salina St./Brighton Ave.) and Exit 18 (Adams Street/Harrison Street) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This reduction is necessary for crews to conduct overhead sign structure inspections.

The lane closures are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, adhere to posted signs, and be mindful of workers in the roadway. According to CNY Central, speeding fines are doubled in work zones, and multiple violations could lead to a suspended license under New York’s Work Zone Safety Act.

The NYSDOT emphasizes the importance of a safe and reliable transportation system and reminds motorists to slow down and move over for highway crews. For more information, drivers can visit the NYSDOT website or call 511 for up-to-date travel information.
