Authorities have located the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Baldwinsville. The incident occurred early Sunday morning (December 7) when a woman was struck and killed on Downer Street near Sun Meadow Way. According to Syracuse.com, State Police, with assistance from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, used surveillance footage to identify the driver. The driver is currently being interviewed by authorities.
The victim, who had left a nearby Dunkin' Donuts shortly before the accident, was found in the eastbound lane of Downer Street and pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released as authorities are still notifying her family. The surveillance video captured a light-colored sedan traveling east on Downer Street around the time of the crash, though the footage is blurry due to the car's speed and the early morning darkness.
Yahoo News reports that a section of Downer Street was closed for investigation. Police are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or who witnessed the crash to contact State Police at (315) 366-6000. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case develops.
