Reverend Brian Konkol, the Dean of Hendricks Chapel at Syracuse University (SU), is set to become the new president of Valparaiso University in Indiana. Konkol will begin his new role on January 1, 2026. He has been with SU since 2017, where he also serves as a professor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
During his tenure at SU, Konkol's strategic vision for Hendricks Chapel transformed it into a central part of the campus community, sponsoring over 2,000 programs and significantly increasing enrollment. His efforts have been widely recognized, and he has been a key member of Chancellor Kent Syverud's executive team.
Konkol's career has been marked by a commitment to student success and interfaith understanding. Before joining SU, he held various roles globally, including serving as a chaplain and pastor in the United States, Guyana, and South Africa.
Robert D. Hansen, Chairman of the Valparaiso University Board of Directors, praised Konkol, stating that he embodies the heart of Valparaiso through his deep Lutheran roots and dedication to excellence. Konkol expressed his excitement for the new role, describing it as a "dream come true" and highlighting Valparaiso's Lutheran tradition of scholarship and faith.
Chancellor Syverud commended Konkol for his exceptional leadership and wished him success in his new position. As Konkol prepares to leave SU, he leaves behind a legacy of growth and community engagement at Hendricks Chapel.
