The New York State Department of Health has reported a significant increase in flu cases across Central New York, with the virus now prevalent throughout the state. As of November 22, there have been 17,783 positive flu cases reported across 62 counties, marking a sharp rise in infections. In Central New York, Onondaga County reported 134 cases, Oneida County had 22 cases, and both Madison and Oswego counties recorded 11 cases each during the week ending November 22.

The state Health Department has mandated that unvaccinated healthcare workers in regulated facilities wear surgical or procedure masks to help prevent the spread of the flu. Dr. James McDonald, the state Health Commissioner, emphasized the importance of vaccination, stating, "The flu vaccine is the best way to protect against infection and lessens symptoms if you get the flu. I encourage everyone 6 months and older to get a flu shot, and it’s not too late to protect yourself and your loved ones" as reported by Spectrum News.

Flu vaccinations are highly recommended, and a list of clinics offering flu shots can be found at vaccines.gov. The Oneida County Health Department also provides information on local flu clinics, which can be accessed by calling 315-798-5747 according to the Oneida County website.
