New details have emerged regarding a recent house fire in Camillus, where a man was found dead. Authorities have identified the deceased as 66-year-old Michael Baxter. The incident occurred last Wednesday (November 19) at a residence on Mason Drive. When firefighters arrived at 3:06 p.m., they encountered heavy smoke coming from the front window of the single-story ranch home.
According to Syracuse.com, the fire was contained to the first floor and was quickly extinguished, resulting in minimal damage to the property. Unfortunately, Baxter had already passed away by the time first responders reached him. The Camillus Police Department stated that the fire does not appear to be criminal, and the cause is still under investigation.
WSYR-TV reported that Baxter was home alone at the time of the fire. Investigators are still determining whether he died from the fire or prior to its onset. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to uncover the cause of the blaze.
FingerLakes1.com noted that Baxter lived with family, though he was alone when the fire broke out. The community awaits further updates as the investigation progresses.
