An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting of an off-duty Onondaga Community College officer in Syracuse. Sky Bessette, 25, was arrested on Wednesday (November 19) for allegedly taking the officer's gun and shooting him in the leg during a confrontation outside McAvan's Pub on West Fayette Street on Sunday (November 9). The officer, Shane Prue, 46, was treated at Upstate University Hospital and released the same day.
According to Syracuse.com, the altercation began as a verbal dispute before escalating into a physical confrontation, leading to the shooting. The gun involved, a Glock 43X, is registered in Prue's name, though it is unclear if it was his service weapon.
Another individual, Yaseen Shehadeh, was also involved in the incident but is not accused of firing the shot. Shehadeh was arrested at the scene for possession of a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun and approximately 7.9 grams of cocaine, as reported by Syracuse.com.
Bessette faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment. She is scheduled to be arraigned in CAP Court on Wednesday evening.
