The Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency has postponed its meeting to approve the Micron Technology project in Clay originally scheduled for today (November 17). The agency was set to vote on granting more than $2 billion in tax breaks to support the construction of a new chipmaking complex at the White Pine Commerce Park. The meeting is now rescheduled for tomorrow, but no specific reason for the delay has been provided.

The tax break package includes significant exemptions from state and county sales taxes on construction materials and more than $250 million in relief from school and property taxes. According to CNY Central, the North Syracuse School District will receive approximately $63 million over 49 years, compared to the nearly $370 million it would have collected without the tax break.

The project has faced scrutiny, with organizations like Reinvent Albany opposing additional requests for $1.7 billion in sales tax abatements. They argue that the subsidies are economically irrational and fiscally irresponsible, questioning the necessity of further financial incentives for Micron, which is already set to receive substantial government subsidies.

Despite the delay, Micron is still expected to begin construction of the chipmaking complex in December, as reported by Syracuse.com.
