Commuters traveling on Interstate 81 in Syracuse should expect delays due to lane closures starting Wednesday (November 12). The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that the southbound lanes of I-81 will be reduced to one lane between Exit 1B (East Glen Avenue) and Exit 78 (Onondaga Nation/Nedrow) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday (November 14). This closure is necessary for bridge inspection work related to the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project.

Drivers are advised to slow down and drive responsibly in the construction zone, as fines are doubled for speeding in these areas. According to WSYR-TV, receiving two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of a driver's license.

The work schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change. For the latest updates on road conditions, drivers can visit 511ny.org. Additional lane closures are also planned for other sections of I-81 and I-481 in Onondaga County, as reported by CNY Central.
