A fire broke out in a vacant house on Hudson Street in Syracuse early Monday morning (November 10). Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after midnight, finding flames reaching up to the attic of the 2 1/2-story building. Approximately 30 firefighters were on the scene, working for several hours to extinguish the fire. According to CNY Central, crews chose to remain outside the home due to safety concerns, using ladders to access the structure from above.
Captain Erik Caster, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Fire Department, stated that the fire was brought under control in about two hours, but crews remained on site for over four hours to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. The house suffered extensive damage, including partial collapse in several areas, and is considered a total loss. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, marking the 13th vacant house fire in Syracuse this year. Despite the cold conditions, firefighters did not encounter any issues in managing the blaze. As reported by Syracuse.com, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about vacant property fires in the city.
