The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced additional lane closures on Interstate 81 in Syracuse as part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project. Starting Monday (November 10), southbound I-81 will be reduced to one lane between East Glen Avenue and Exit 78 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights through Friday (November 14). These restrictions are necessary for bridge maintenance work.
In addition to the overnight closures, lane restrictions will occur in both directions of I-81 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays until Tuesday (November 25) to facilitate work on the Bear Street Bridge. Specifically, northbound lanes will be affected between Exit 18 (Adams Street/Harrison Street) and Exit 23 (Park Street/Hiawatha Boulevard), while southbound lanes will experience closures between Exits 23A-23B-22 (Hiawatha Boulevard/Destiny USA Drive/Bear Street) and Exit 20 (Franklin Street/West Street).
The NYSDOT reminds drivers to use caution in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding, and multiple violations can lead to license suspension. The project aims to enhance infrastructure and ensure safety, but all work is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. For the latest updates, motorists can follow the I-81 Viaduct Project on social media or visit the NYSDOT website.
