Syracuse has initiated a Parking Amnesty Program, allowing motorists with unpaid parking tickets to avoid late fees throughout November. The program, announced by Mayor Ben Walsh, aims to help residents clear their records by paying only the original fine and a mandatory New York State surcharge. The amnesty period runs from Monday (November 3) to Sunday (November 30), providing an opportunity for those with outstanding tickets to settle their debts at a reduced cost.

Currently, there are over 140,000 unpaid tickets in the city, dating back to 1997. The city hopes the program will generate needed revenue while offering relief to residents burdened by late fees. Motorists can pay in person at the City Payment Center, use the secure drop box, or mail their payments. An online payment option will be available starting November 10.

The city has set up a dedicated phone line and email address for inquiries about unresolved tickets. Residents can contact ParkingAmnesty@syr.gov or call (315) 448-8670 for assistance. The city encourages drivers to take advantage of this opportunity to avoid potential vehicle immobilization due to unpaid fines.
