An investigation is ongoing after a shooting occurred at the State University of New York (SUNY) Morrisville campus on Monday (November 3). According to the New York State Police, a 20-year-old male, who is not a student at the university, was shot in the neck inside the South Hall dormitory around 3:45 p.m. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital and is expected to survive.

Authorities, including the New York State Police, University Police, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office, are conducting a thorough investigation. They have established a command post and are utilizing various resources, such as the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Uniformed Services, Special Operations Response Team, and K9 units, to process the scene and search nearby areas. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Officials have confirmed that no other individuals were injured during the incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the campus community. A shelter-in-place order was initially issued for the campus but was lifted later that night, except for South and Onondaga Hall. Governor Kathy Hochul has been briefed on the situation and assured that state police are assisting local law enforcement and SUNY leadership in their response.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are treating the shooting as a targeted event. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
