Human remains found in Oswego County, New York, have been identified as those of John T. Humphrey, a Scriba resident who went missing in 2012. The remains were discovered on September 1 by a property owner clearing a trail on Darrow Road in New Haven. Humphrey, born on November 21, 1963, was last seen on June 2, 2012, walking along State Route 104 near the New Haven Fire Department after leaving his home at the Sumatra Apartment complex in Scriba.

According to WKTV, Humphrey was 48 years old at the time of his disappearance and was a U.S. Army veteran. DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains. The New York State Police have stated that there are no indications of foul play, and the cause of death remains undetermined pending further examination.

Humphrey had been released from a mental health facility a day before he was reported missing, according to Syracuse.com. Despite multiple searches and public appeals over the years, his whereabouts remained unknown until the recent discovery.

The Rome Sentinel reports that an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Humphrey's disappearance and death.
