The City of Syracuse has officially ended its warning period for the school zone safety enforcement program as of Sunday (November 2). This means drivers can now receive actual tickets for traffic violations in school zones. For the past 60 days, drivers caught speeding or running red lights near schools received warnings in the mail. Now, these warnings have been replaced with real fines.
According to CNY Central, tickets for running red lights or speeding in school zones are set at $50 each. If these fines are not paid on time, a late fee of $25 will be added. The program's goal is to slow drivers down and enhance the safety of children in school areas.
The enforcement program serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in school zones and aims to ensure that drivers adhere to traffic rules to protect students.
