An investigation is underway after a construction worker fell from a beam in a work zone along Interstate 481 in DeWitt on Thursday (October 30). The worker, involved in the I-81 Viaduct Project, fell near the bridge over the CSX railyard, where crews are converting I-481 into the new Interstate 81. Emergency services were immediately notified, and the worker was taken to a hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

According to WSYR-TV, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has initiated an investigation into the incident. The DeWitt Police Department, which responded to the scene, indicated that their minimal involvement suggests the injuries were minor. The incident caused significant traffic delays during the morning commute, as the southbound lane in the area is currently split into two lanes.

The NYSDOT is working to determine the cause of the accident as they continue to convert I-481 into the new I-81. The project is part of a larger effort to improve infrastructure in the area. Further updates on the investigation and the worker's condition are expected as the investigation progresses.
