Syracuse University football coach Fran Brown is contemplating a change at the quarterback position ahead of the game against North Carolina on Friday (October 31). Brown announced that Rickie Collins, who has been the starting quarterback since Steve Angeli's season-ending Achilles injury, might not start. Brown stated, "You won’t just see Rickie in the game," indicating that Collins may share snaps with other quarterbacks.

Collins, a transfer from LSU, has struggled in his starting role, leading the Orange to four consecutive losses, dropping their record to three wins and five losses. Despite his athleticism, Collins has thrown six touchdowns against eight interceptions this season, completing 54.9% of his passes.

Backup quarterback Luke Carney, a freshman, may see more playing time. Carney has completed two of three passes for 10 yards and has shown potential as a runner. Brown emphasized the importance of competition, stating, "You have to open that competition up and make sure you’re giving an opportunity for us to go out and win."

The decision comes as Syracuse prepares to face a North Carolina team coached by NFL legend Bill Belichick. After this game, Syracuse will face challenging opponents, including Miami and Notre Dame, before concluding the season against Boston College.
