In Syracuse, a dog named Chance is recovering after being found stabbed earlier this week on East Willow Street. Chance, a brindle pit bull, underwent emergency surgery at the Veterinary Medical Center of Central New York, where he received two blood transfusions due to significant blood loss and heart damage.
The community has rallied around Chance, with donations covering the $8,000 cost of his medical treatment. HumaneCNY is overseeing his recovery, and the organization credits the community's generosity for making his care possible. Maureen Davison, Executive Director of HumaneCNY, stated, "Everything we do and fund here comes from donations. It truly was a community effort, or we wouldn’t have been able to do this" as reported by WSYR-TV.
The Syracuse Police Department is actively seeking information to find the person responsible for this act of animal cruelty. Cuse Pit Crew, an animal advocacy group, is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Syracuse Police Department's Animal Cruelty Division at (315) 442-5336.
Authorities remain hopeful that with the community's support, justice will be served, and Chance will have the opportunity to recover fully and feel safe again. Anyone who needs to talk can call 800-273-8255 no matter the time of day.
