Central New York residents have an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted medications tomorrow (October 25) during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., individuals can drop off unused prescriptions at designated collection sites, including police stations. However, it is important to note that these locations will not accept syringes, liquids, or needles.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) organizes this national event to prevent unused prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands. According to the DEA, previous Take Back Days have collected millions of pounds of medications nationwide, highlighting the importance of safe disposal.
Residents can find a nearby drop-off location by visiting the DEA's official website and entering their zip code. The New York State Department of Health also supports this initiative through its Drug Take Back programs, offering resources for secure disposal options.
