Syracuse Developer Backs Out Of Shoppingtown Project

Syracuse, N.Y. - The developer, who was going to turn Shoppingtown Mall into mixed use community, has pulled out of the project.

OHB Redev, had plans to turn the vacant property into a 400 million dollar, 65-acre community, with parks, housing, retail and entertainment, to be called "District East"

The property has been mired in legal issues, with Onondaga County battling the owners of the Sear's and Macy's parcel. Sears has reached an agreement, and an eminent domain action was filed against Macy's.

County Executive Ryan McMahon recently said the vision for Shoppingtown has changed.
