An investigation is underway at Syracuse University after racist and anti-LGBTQ slurs were discovered on a whiteboard in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The offensive messages were found on an office door's whiteboard, prompting swift action from the university's Department of Public Safety.

A student discovered the slurs and immediately reported them to professors, filing a STOP Bias report. Dean Mark Lodato emphasized the university's commitment to inclusivity, stating, "This kind of reprehensible behavior has no place at Syracuse University and the Newhouse School." He has reached out to the individual directly affected to offer support.

The university community has been urged to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to maintain a welcoming environment for all students, faculty, and staff. The Newhouse School's Office of Community, Culture, and Engagement offers support through a "listening lounge" for students twice a week, aiming to foster dialogue and understanding.

As the investigation continues, Syracuse University remains focused on upholding its values of diversity and inclusion. Anyone with information is encouraged to assist in resolving the matter.
