The deadline to register for the Syracuse Fire Department entrance exam is fast approaching. Prospective candidates have until November 25 to sign up for the exam, which is scheduled for January 10, 2026. Administered by Onondaga County under New York State civil service guidelines, the test is multiple-choice and marks the first step in the hiring process.
According to CNY Central, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds emphasized the importance of registering for the exam. The department is also offering a test preparation class on November 22, but spots are filling up quickly. "It's filling up fast," Chief Monds noted, adding that the class will cover test content and strategies, which could be beneficial for other civil service exams as well.
Candidates who achieve the highest scores on the exam will advance to interviews and a physical agility test. They must also pass medical exams to ensure they meet the physical demands of firefighting. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to join the Syracuse Fire Department.
