Authorities in Madison County are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday (October 19) near the intersection of State Route 12 and Tackabury Road in Hamilton. The accident involved a 2018 Nissan Rogue and a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 towing a horse trailer.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:54 p.m. when 18-year-old Austin Thurlow from Cheektowaga attempted to turn north onto Route 12 from Tackabury Road. Thurlow's vehicle collided with the Silverado driven by 34-year-old Julia Dillon of Hamilton. The impact resulted in severe injuries to Laurie Jones, a 70-year-old passenger from East Amherst, who was in Thurlow's vehicle. Jones was transported to Hamilton Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
CNY Central reported that State Route 12 was closed for several hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and deputies are urging any witnesses to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 315-366-2311.
