Gas prices in Central New York continue to decline, offering relief to motorists in the region. According to AAA Western and Central New York, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $3.07, which is four cents lower than last week and 11 cents less than a month ago. The state average stands at $3.13, while the national average is slightly lower at $3.04.
The drop in gas prices is attributed to several factors, including a decrease in demand and an increase in gasoline inventories. The Energy Information Administration reports that demand for gasoline has fallen to a four-month low, contributing to the continued decline in pump prices. Additionally, the seasonal transition from summer-grade to winter-grade fuel is expected to further reduce prices in the coming weeks.
Crude oil prices have also been stable, remaining in the low to mid $60s per barrel. Despite a slight increase in gas demand and a small decrease in supply, production has increased, helping to keep prices down. Mark Schieldrop, a senior spokesperson for AAA Northeast, stated, "Cheaper oil plus near-record U.S. oil production is helping to move gasoline prices lower."
As the third quarter of 2025 ends, higher gasoline inventories and steady oil production are likely to maintain the downward trend in gas prices. Motorists can expect to save more at the pump as these factors continue to influence the market.
