A tractor-trailer overturned on State Route 365 in Rome on Thursday (October 16), leading to the driver being hospitalized. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 9:51 p.m. when the semi-truck, hauling a fully loaded trailer, veered off the northern shoulder, crossed the median, and overturned in the westbound lane. The vehicle eventually came to a stop off the road's shoulder.
Emergency responders, including the Rome Fire Department and AmCare Ambulance, arrived promptly, transporting the driver to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to CNY Central, the driver was found at fault for failing to maintain the lane and received a traffic ticket. The case will be addressed in Rome City Court at a later date.
This incident follows another recent tractor-trailer accident in Rome. On October 3, a fatal crash occurred on the exit ramp to Martin Street, resulting in the death of Michael Lucas, 39, from Turin. The investigation into that accident is ongoing, with speed suspected as a contributing factor. The exit ramp remains closed for further structural inspection, as noted by the Utica Observer-Dispatch.
