Syracuse Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting

Syracuse police have arrested Lakeeyah May, 41, in connection with the fatal shooting of Joseph Castillo, 40, on Tuesday night (October 14). Castillo was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head, arm, and back near the intersection of Midland and West Brighton Avenues. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to WSYR-TV.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m., and witnesses reported hearing three gunshots. Officers also discovered a red pickup truck crashed into a utility pole near the scene. West Brighton Avenue was closed for over two hours during the investigation, as reported by Syracuse.com.

After an extensive investigation, the Syracuse Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division identified May as the suspect. She was taken into custody without incident on West Brighton Avenue and is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, pending arraignment.
