Onondaga County is addressing concerns about its new school bus camera program, which has mistakenly ticketed some drivers. The program, launched at the start of the school year, aims to enhance student safety by catching drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses. However, some violations were incorrectly issued when buses were parked on or near school property, not actively stopping with lights flashing and stop-arms extended.

County officials, in collaboration with Verra Mobility, the company operating the camera system, are making adjustments to prevent future errors. Drivers who believe they received a ticket in error can contact Verra Mobility for assistance at (408) 990-4819 or email SchoolBusSafety@ongov.net.

The errors have caused frustration among residents, with some drivers receiving $250 fines unjustly. According to Syracuse.com, the Cicero police department has received multiple complaints about erroneous tickets, particularly around Gillette Middle School.

The county remains committed to ensuring the program's accuracy and integrity as improvements continue. CNY Central reports that Onondaga County is working diligently with Verra Mobility to resolve these issues and maintain the program's goal of keeping children safe.
