The development of Micron Technology's chip fabrication plant in Clay has taken a significant step forward. The state Public Service Commission has approved a plan to construct two miles of underground service lines between a National Grid substation and the future site at the White Pine Commerce Park. This approval is crucial for meeting the electric needs of the upcoming semiconductor manufacturing campus.

According to the New York State Department of Public Service, the project involves building eight new 345-kilovolt transmission voltage service laterals. These will connect the Clay Substation to four proposed Micron facility fabrication areas, with circuit lengths ranging from 0.95 miles to 2.07 miles. This infrastructure is essential for the massive economic development initiative, which is one of the largest in U.S. history.

An environmental management and construction plan has also been approved, paving the way for further progress. Despite these advancements, ground-breaking on the facility is not expected for a few more months.
