Syracuse University head football coach Fran Brown confirmed that Rickie Collins will remain the starting quarterback for the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Panthers at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday (October 18). Despite recent struggles, Brown expressed confidence in Collins during a press conference on Monday (October 13). Collins took over the starting role following a season-ending Achilles tendon injury to former starter Steve Angeli.
Collins, who transferred from Louisiana State University (LSU), has faced challenges since stepping into the role. His performance in the last game against Southern Methodist University (SMU) included three interceptions and a completion rate of less than 50%, leading to a significant loss. However, Brown remains supportive, stating, "Yeah, why wouldn’t he? He’s okay, right?" when asked about Collins' position as the starting quarterback, according to The Daily Orange.
Collins has shown a commitment to improving his performance. After a tough debut against Duke, where the team scored only three points, he sought out Coach Brown to review the game footage, demonstrating his dedication to enhancing his skills and contributing to the team's success, as reported by Syracuse.com.
As the Orange prepare to face Pittsburgh, Collins aims to lead the team to a much-needed victory, hoping to turn around the recent series of losses and prove his capability as the starting quarterback.
