A lane closure is set to affect Interstate 81 southbound in Syracuse starting Monday (September 29). The New York State Department of Transportation announced that the highway will be reduced to a single lane between Exit 17 (S Salina St/Brighton Ave) and Exit 78 (Onondaga Nation/Nedrow) from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Friday (October 3). This closure is part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, which involves paving work in the area.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to check the latest travel conditions at 511ny.org. The DOT advises drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones, noting that fines are doubled for speeding violations in these areas. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of a driver's license.

The construction schedule is weather-dependent, and changes may occur based on conditions. For more updates, drivers can follow the I-81 Viaduct Project on social media or visit the official website.
