The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) is alerting motorists about an overnight lane closure on Interstate 81 in Syracuse. Due to ongoing work on the I-81 Viaduct Project, the southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between Exit 17 and Exit 78 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until tomorrow (Saturday, September 27). Crews will be installing drainage pipes during this time, and delays are expected. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes to avoid congestion.
The lane closure is part of the broader I-81 Viaduct Project, which aims to improve infrastructure in the area. Construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. The NYS DOT urges drivers to exercise caution in the work zone and adhere to all traffic control devices.
According to the NYS DOT, fines are doubled for speeding in work zones, and multiple speeding violations could result in the suspension of a driver's license.
For real-time updates, motorists can follow the I-81 Viaduct Project on social media or visit the NYS DOT website.
